Time article paints manufactured housing in positive light

Time magazine entered the media coverage of manufactured home communities this week, spending time in three Florida communities and calling manufactured housing “The Home of the Future.”

Reporter Karl Vick visited three resident-owned communities in Zephyrhills, about 30 miles northeast of Tampa. While resident-owned, it’s important to note that these are market-rate cooperatives as opposed to the low-cost share cooperative model used by ROC USA® and its affiliates. (Read Paul’s blog post from 2014 that compares the difference.)

The Time article is generally positive on life in a manufactured home community, describing how neighbors look after one another. The conclusion is that they are a great and affordable way to age in place, especially among a U.S. population that isn’t saving enough for retirement in general.
